"Four ways to teach CCSS with Public Media" Summary

California's adoption of the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) is allowing educators to teach today's students the critical skills needed for the vast and expansive world of technology. Not only is technology included in the Common Core system, subjects included at the moment are Language Art/English/Literacy, History/Social Studies, and Science/Technology. This article has four ways that CCSS can be used with the public media. One, Emphasis on the informational text. This is implementing tools such as PBS Learning, or other public broadcasting systems. Two, focusing on the arguement. Common core requires all students to find arguements in situations rather than just discussing what the assignment is about. This is teaching students to think broader and think more logically. Three, is a push for media literacy. This is simply saying focus on the historical events that are taking place. For example: the upcoming 2012 Presidential Election. Four, encouraging the exchange of ideas and online collaboration. This is tying in the social networking sites such as twitter and facebook into education. This is allowing schools to express and/or exchange ideas between other schools and communities.
